What We OfferFor over 37 years, the Paul J. Cooper Center for Human Services has strived to provide services that helps individuals with Chemical Dependency, Developmental Disabilities and Mental Health issues become productive members of their communities again. The agency is designed to teach every client to live independently and become an integral part of the community.
Paul J. Cooper teaches clients coping skills and offers them the support needed to make it on their own. We understand without a support system clients end up in the hospital, far from their family or down a destructive path. We provide them with the necessary tools to fully armor themselves to face the challenges of life. Helping them through the process of gaining the value of self respect and earning back the respect of family and peers.
Paul J. Cooper provides a basis for the dedicated staff to support clients by giving the gift of themselves. Every client is provided meals, metro cards and assistance for daily living. Planned activities outside the actual services endear patients to the program and make Paul J. Cooper better able to serve the community.
Our reward is the transformation we see in the client and watching them reach out to others.
Mental Health ServicesThe Mental Health Clinic of Paul J. Cooper, located in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, is licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health. The staff is comprised of Board Certified/State licensed professionals of diverse multicultural backgrounds. The clinic serves clients that are referred through local schools, ACS/Foster care providers, local hospitals, churches, other community based organizations or individually sought direct service. The needs of this population include developmental disabilities, substance abuse, as well as mental health issues. Our approach builds on the strengths of the individual and the family.
Our Mental Health services are based on the needs, preferences, and cultural diversity of the persons that we serve. Use of the case management model, evaluation and assessment tools enable our individualized "care-team" to determine the level and type of services best suited for each client's plan for treatment.
Treatment venues provide individual, group and family therapy, crisis intervention, client advocacy and opportunities for the introduction of concrete services to remediate the existing circumstances. We attempt to empower and support clients, enhance self-respect and self-esteem and enable them to function productively in this world.
There is also 24 hour emergency assistance.
